Ingredients

Roll Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2¼ teaspoons
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water 105-110°F
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter for brushing

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Kitchen thermometer
  • Clean kitchen towel

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add melted butter, beaten egg, and salt to yeast mixture, whisking until combined.
  4. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  5. Turn onto floured surface and knead 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Divide dough into 12 equal portions and roll each into smooth balls.
  7. Arrange rolls in prepared baking dish, touching slightly. Cover and rise 10-12 minutes.
  8. Brush tops with melted butter and bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and brush with additional butter while warm. Serve immediately.

Notes

Water temperature is critical - use thermometer to ensure 105-110°F for proper yeast activation. Rolls are best served warm but can be stored covered for up to 3 days.
