Casserole Base
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) baked beans in tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar optional
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp salt adjust to taste
Toppings
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup crispy fried onions or breadcrumbs optional
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Stir in baked beans, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the casserole dish and spread evenly. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  7. Optional: Add crispy onions or breadcrumbs during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

Tastes even better the next day! Try substituting BBQ sauce for ketchup for a smoky variation.
