Ingredients
  

Pork
  • 2 lbs pork shoulder cut into long strips
Marinade
  • 0.25 cup hoisin sauce
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine optional
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice
  • 0.5 tsp red food coloring optional
Glaze
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp reserved marinade

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Brush for glazing

Method
 

  1. Slice pork shoulder into long strips.
  2. Whisk all marinade ingredients together.
  3. Reserve 2 tbsp marinade for glazing.
  4. Marinate pork at least 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Place pork on a foil-lined baking sheet with a wire rack.
  7. Roast 20 minutes, brush with glaze, then flip.
  8. Roast another 15–20 minutes until caramelized.
  9. Broil 2–3 minutes for charred edges.
  10. Rest 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Add extra honey for stickier glaze or broil longer for more char.
