Ingredients
  

Donut Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.75 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil for frying
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted for brushing

Equipment

  • Deep fryer or heavy pot

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, whisk milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed into a thick batter.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into hot oil and fry until golden, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl. Brush donut holes with melted butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar to coat.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

For even coating, roll donut holes while still warm. Best served fresh but can be reheated.
