- Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions, salt, and sugar; cook 20–30 minutes until caramelized.
- Stir in Worcestershire and cook 2 more minutes.
- Add orzo and toast 1 minute.
- Pour in broth, garlic powder, thyme, and pepper.
- Simmer 8–10 minutes until orzo absorbs most liquid.
- Stir in heavy cream and butter.
- Mix in half the Gruyère.
- Transfer to baking dish and top with remaining cheese.
- Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 10–12 minutes until bubbling and golden.
