Ingredients

Bread Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
Garlic Butter
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 cup parmesan cheese grated, optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Kitchen towel
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in greased bowl, cover with damp cloth, and rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal portions. Shape each into a smooth ball.
  6. Place rolls on greased baking sheet, cover, and rise 30 minutes until puffed.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, and parmesan.
  8. Brush rolls with garlic butter mixture, reserving some for after baking.
  9. Bake 18-22 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  10. Brush warm rolls with remaining garlic butter and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use a kitchen scale to measure flour. Rolls can be frozen after shaping and baked directly from frozen, adding 5-7 minutes to baking time.
