- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and molasses, whisking until smooth.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract, mixing until glossy and well combined.
- Gradually fold in dry ingredients, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix.
- If using chocolate chips, gently fold them into the batter.
- Pour batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly with a spatula.
- Bake for 28-32 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool completely in pan before cutting into squares.
- If desired, whisk glaze ingredients until smooth and drizzle over cooled brownies.
