Ingredients

Mashed Potatoes
  • 2 lbs russet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
Ground Beef and Gravy
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp butter optional, for richness
  • fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Potato masher
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a skillet, brown ground beef and diced onion until beef is cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir to coat. Cook 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until smooth.
  6. Add seasonings and simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  7. Stir in butter for extra richness, if desired.
  8. Serve the beef and gravy over warm mashed potatoes, garnished with parsley.

Notes

For a thicker gravy, add an extra tablespoon of flour. For a lighter texture, use half ground beef and half ground turkey.
