Ingredients

Bread Base
  • 1 large French baguette or Italian bread loaf
Herb Butter Mixture
  • 6 cloves fresh garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh oregano chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes optional

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Butter knife
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice bread diagonally into 1-inch thick pieces, not cutting completely through bottom crust.
  3. In mixing bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, herbs, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Add olive oil and Parmesan cheese, mixing until smooth and spreadable consistency.
  5. Generously spread herb butter mixture between each slice and over top surface of bread.
  6. Wrap entire loaf in aluminum foil, creating tent for steam circulation.
  7. Bake wrapped for 15 minutes, then remove foil and bake 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool for 2-3 minutes before serving to allow butter to set while maintaining crispy texture.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread for better texture. Store leftovers wrapped in foil and reheat at 350°F for 5 minutes to restore crispiness.
