Ingredients
  

Homemade Pudding
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 3 egg yolks lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Layers
  • 4 bananas sliced
  • 1 box Nilla wafers
  • 2 cups whipped cream or whipped topping

Method
 

  1. In a saucepan, whisk sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Slowly add milk while whisking.
  2. Cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
  3. Temper egg yolks with warm pudding mixture, then return to saucepan.
  4. Cook 2–3 minutes more until pudding is thick and smooth. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in butter and vanilla until melted and combined. Let cool slightly.
  6. Layer wafers, bananas, and pudding in a serving dish. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with whipped cream and additional wafers if desired.
  8. Chill at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, chill overnight. Use firm bananas to prevent browning.
