Method
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add eggs, butter, and yeast mixture. Mix to form soft dough.
- Knead dough 8–10 minutes on floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
- Punch down dough, press into greased baking pan about 1 inch thick.
- Make shallow indentations in dough and fill with jam. Optional: fold edges over jam slightly.
- Cover dough and let rise 20–30 minutes.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
- Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Avoid overfilling jam to prevent leakage during baking. Use room temperature ingredients for best rise.
