Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 eggs large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
  7. Spread batter evenly in prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until edges are set and lightly golden while center appears slightly underbaked.
  9. Cool completely in pan before lifting out using parchment overhang and cutting into squares.

Notes

For extra gooey bars, slightly underbake them. Store in airtight container for up to one week or freeze individual bars for up to 3 months.
