Meat Layer
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 blend
  • 8 strips thick-cut bacon chopped
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 6 cloves fresh garlic minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Pasta and Cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil chopped

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Large pot
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and cook lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente.
  2. Cook chopped bacon in large skillet until crispy, then remove and set aside, reserving 2 tablespoons of fat.
  3. Brown ground beef in bacon fat, breaking into small pieces, approximately 8-10 minutes until fully cooked.
  4. Add diced onion and minced garlic to beef, cooking until fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, simmering 15 minutes.
  6. Combine ricotta cheese, eggs, half the mozzarella, and half the Parmesan in mixing bowl.
  7. In separate saucepan, heat heavy cream and remaining garlic until steaming, creating garlic cream sauce.
  8. Layer bottom of 9x13 baking dish with thin coating of meat sauce.
  9. Arrange 4 noodles over sauce, spread half the ricotta mixture, then half remaining meat sauce.
  10. Repeat layering process, finishing with noodles, garlic cream sauce, and remaining cheeses.
  11. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes, then remove foil and bake additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
  12. Let rest 15 minutes before serving to allow layers to set properly.
