Classic Philly-style sandwich made with thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, and sautéed onions on a toasted hoagie roll.

Ingredients
  

Cheesesteak Filling
  • 1.5 lb ribeye steak thinly sliced
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper optional, sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls split
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 0.75 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • Large skillet or griddle
  • Sharp knife
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Cook onions in oil until soft and lightly caramelized.
  2. Increase heat and add sliced steak, seasoning lightly.
  3. Cook quickly, chopping and flipping until just done.
  4. Return onions and peppers to skillet and mix.
  5. Lay cheese over steak and allow to melt.
  6. Stir gently to combine and spoon into toasted rolls.

Notes

For easiest slicing, partially freeze steak before cutting.
