- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, and baking soda.
- Cut cold butter into flour mixture using pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in shredded cheddar cheese, distributing evenly throughout mixture.
- In separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg until combined.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and fold gently just until combined, avoiding overmixing.
- Transfer batter to prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake 45-55 minutes until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- While loaf bakes, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt for topping.
- Immediately brush garlic butter over hot loaf when removed from oven.
- Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
Store wrapped at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days. Freezes well for up to 3 months. Reheat slices in toaster or warm entire loaf wrapped in foil at 300°F.
