Ingredients

Yeast Roll Dough
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2¼ teaspoons
  • 1 cup warm milk 105-115°F
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter for brushing

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet or 9x13 pan
  • Kitchen towel
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm milk. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, softened butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
  3. Gradually add 3 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add remaining flour as needed.
  4. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in greased bowl, cover with damp cloth and let rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into 12-15 equal portions. Shape into smooth balls.
  7. Place rolls on greased baking sheet, cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until nearly doubled.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F. Brush roll tops with melted butter and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For best results, ensure milk temperature is between 105-115°F for proper yeast activation. Rolls can be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated as needed.
