Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs large
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.75 cup rainbow sprinkles
Vanilla Buttercream
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp milk or cream
  • 0.25 tsp salt

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time then mix in vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until batter forms.
  6. Fold in rainbow sprinkles gently.
  7. Divide batter into pans and bake 25–30 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
  9. Beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and milk to make frosting.
  10. Frost cake layers and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

Use jimmies sprinkles for best color results when baking.
